Pour chaque être humain, il faut compter près de 200 millions de ces petites bêtes. Nous vivons en réalité sur la planète des insectes. Mais résisteront-ils à l’exploitation intensive des terres agricoles, au réchauffement climatique, à l’abus d’insecticides? Rien n’est moins sûr, car ils ont de plus en plus de mal à absorber les changements qui sont imposés aux écosystèmes.
Ainsi, d’ici un siècle, les insectes pourraient tous disparaître, ce qui entraînerait un effondrement catastrophique des équilibres naturels. Faut-il rappeler qu’ils constituent ni plus ni moins la nourriture de base des oiseaux, des poissons et de plusieurs mammifères?
